HAITI UPDATE - EDUCATION
March 2011 will mark the fourth anniversary of the "TWINNING" of St. Mary Parish with Ste. Therese Parish, located in Marbial, Haiti. From the very beginning, one of our primary goals has been to provide our sister parish with financial assistance to help educate the nearly four hundred K thru 8 and high school students at Ste. Therese. Donations for education have been solicited through monthly bulletin articles and during our traditional Christmas "Giving Tree". All contributions intended for education are received by, or submitted to, the Rectory and are recorded separate from all other contributions.
Once a year, generally during January, all monies collected for education the previous year are forwarded to a bank account in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, set-up by Citi Bank, that is accessible only by Father Bertrand (Pastor of Ste. Therese). Sometime during this month St. Mary will forward to Father Bertrand $6,465 which will bring our four year total to $24,303.
When Father Bertrand visited our parish during the Lenten Season of 2008, and on many occasions since, he has profoundly expressed his appreciation for the extraordinary generosity of the parishioners of St. Mary. He has told us that his students "truly believe that their sister parish in the United States cares for them and has a genuine interest in improving their lives".
Your Twinning Committee offers its sincerest thanks and appreciation for your generosity and asks that we all remember "Our love must not be a thing of words and fine talk. It must be a thing of action and sincerely". 1 John 3:18
